Roland System 101 STAND ALONE?

i know the Roland system 100 is highly regarded but how is the 101 as a stand alone synth?
is it great by itself or does its greatness only appear with the other modules?

It sounds good, but is VERY basic, even after the patching. Fine on it's own if you don't pay too much for it, but they tend to be overpriced.

would getting a 101 be redundent?

Yes. Try to score a Source or a MonoPoly for the same price.

Yep, I concur with everything that has already been said, very basic and similar sounding to the SH-1/09/2 bunch.
But a classic Roland, but yes just don't overpay too much because or the "collector" factor
