so i have to admit to being a bit underwhelmed when i first played the Pro-12.
presets are lackluster (almost always the case) and the bottom configuration strip of display switches/buttons is pretty confusing initially.
the manual is some help but not much.
there are a few niggles when switching patches. sometimes a saved polyphonic patch will revert to monophonic when navigating to it. the monophonic "on/off" function sometimes doesn't work in these cases and the only way to get it back to polyphony is to navigate away and back to the patch again.
i'm told these glitches are remedied with a firmware update but i'm not able to do that until Sonic Core emails me my keyfile. (ps: they've been extremely friendly/helpful).
also annoying is the inability to balance the volume of each patch. you can tweak it to a minor degree but the adjustment is not isolated to the patch's own volume/gain. the parameter effects the MASTER vol.
this makes it such that the patches are balanced so long as you don't touch the master volume. if you do the balance is thrown off.
weird
after having figured my way around the synth it really started to come alive. i was able to recreate almost to a tee a swarm of pro one and prophet 5 sounds from youtube.
i really like this synth ALOT!
i hesitate to mention it but......the ASB sounds almost exactly like my Mopho
makes sense since the Mopho is a descendant of the Pro One.
the prospect of having a 1 knob per function layout is grreat but of course there are WAY less modulation capabilities when compared to the Mopho.
the onboard effects on the Pro-12 makeup for that deficiency and it's so nice to have them all saved within each patch.
one of these synths will have to go eventually. we'll see how my relationship ages with the Pro-12.
Creamware Pro-12 ASB....1st impressions
