Drum machine

Post by makeshift » Tue Jul 09, 2013 8:50 pm

Hello all, new to the forum. ^_^

Im looking to buy a vintage drum machine, something that I would play around with/sample/be neat to have…

I would like to spend no more then $300, closer to 200 preferably so something cheap. At first I was looking at the Yamaha: RX-5 it seems there were a lot of ways to manipulate each sound which appealed to me, and it had a lot of pads which is cool, but I’m kind of inclined to get something that sounds more analogue. So I started looking at roland things and I really liked how they sound but even the cheaper roland drum machines seemed a bit out of m price range.

At any rate, I would appreciate all suggestions. :D —— Cheap - quality - analogue drummachine

Other than Korg Volca Beats, MonoTribe or MFB-502, you're not going to get an analog drum machine for under $300.

*EDIT* I forgot about the Boss DR-55 & DR-110.

Alright cool, thnx.Yeah doesn’t look like many options, I was scared my price looked a bit low. With that said the Korg Volca Beats looks really cool. I wanted to get something vintage but it seems like I won’t be able to get anything vintage with a fraction of the versatility of the Korg Volca Beats within my price range. Im going to wait some more but yeah thus far I think Volca beats is best option.

Im will yard sale/thrift store hard this weekend maybe I will find an 808 >.<

For some great drum machining at a low price might I recommend a Korg electribe es-1. It's obviously not analog but it's so user friendly and tweakable that you would get a lot more out of it than you would an analog drum machine around the same price (dr-110).
The volca beats is definitely a good option too.

Yeah, I would say Korg ES-1 or ESX is even better with decay and extra outs. I can't think of any analog drum machines under $300. Maybe a 606 if you get lucky. Or, like somebody said, Korg Volca Beats. KR-55, but it's all preset.

MFB 522 DrumComputer, not quite vintage but has a lot of controls, and TR-style programming
might be able to get one 2nd hand within budget
