Post by yamaha22 » Sat May 10, 2014 9:04 pm

i'll be purchasing an mpc soon

would it be best to buy a 16 multitimbral synth to sequence with mpc like the triton series or some other synth much more powerful but not multitimbral that i could sample

well the tritons have their own sequencers and samplers, so it would make owning the mpc a bit redundant...unless you are crazy about the mpc interface or something...also depends on your budget...

triton was just an example because of it's multitimbral(ness?)

What kind of sounds are you after? Is money an issue? If you need a really broad pallette, maybe a Roland FA-06, great price, too. Or an Access Virus TI2

money is kind of an issue, just takes longer to save up right.. a wide sound pallette is good. in the past with reason i'd always use synth sounds and real instrument sounds together.

Well, I think you'd be wise to check out the Roland FA-06, then.

The Korg Micro-X is like a baby Triton Extreme. It is utterly loaded with sounds but lacks a sequencer / sampler. It is 16 part multitimbral and pairs well with a MPC. I know from experience. ;)

Nothing beats the V-Synth ;-) Well, actually, for your purposes, an FA-06 would be better. The V-Synth isn't a rompler, and limited polyphony will make for a limited multitimbral setup (be ware that multitimbrality is only present in the original V, there may be some limited solution in the GT, not sure).

But as skunk3 suggests, a Micro-X should be a nice solution as well.

if i was using the FA06 full 16 instruments and got them the way i wanted can you save that as a program or something?

Yes, you can save it.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

blofeld
that is an extremely powerful and versatile synth. I had a table top version, then wanted a keyboard and had both for awhile sold the desk top, then the keyboard to fund modular addiction now I miss it so I'll probably end up with another in the near future.
My modular so far: Q104, Q106, Q107, Q108, Q109 x2 , Q116, Q118, Q127 w/Q140, Q130, STG Wave Folder, playing with Moog Voyager, VX-351, CP-251, MF-104M (x2 STEREO!)

Emu proteus 2000 series with expansion roms or perhaps the roland xv/jv series if your looking for something that can do both synthetic and acoustic sounds. I see a lot of people recommending the blofeld in this thread, but isn't the multi-timbral mode buggy?
