I recently saw an ad of someone selling four sets of waveform and data cards for the SY/TG77 or SY-99, for 500 SEK (€55/£45/US$75 as of today). The cards are String Section, Syn Wave 1 + 2, and of course the ever present Sax.
How useful are they? I got my TG77 mostly for FM, but I'm thinking, without having heard any examples, that at least the Syn Wave sets could be useful for layering, and probably the String set too.
And I have no idea if the price is reasonable. Since an entire TG77 is about 3-4 times the price and it's "just a bunch of ROMs" it does seem a bit steep. The inflated Ebay asking prices presumably have little relation to their value.
Edit: topic
Yamaha SY/TG77 waveform/data cards, useful or not? Value?

Is the price for all 4 card sets together or for each of them?
€55 for all 4 card sets is a very good price, while €55 for each card set is expensive (€30-35 per card set would be a decent average price)

The price is for the whole lot.
Do you have any experience with using any card sets, and are they worth bothering with? I'm pretty ignorant about what the difference will be when trying to create sounds from scratch. (Maybe I should try reading through the manual again.)

That's a good price, I'd suggest get them and if you don't like them I'll buy them off you for the same price again (+shipping) so you can't lose out.karmag wrote:The price is for the whole lot.
(my offer is totally serious, contact me via PM anytime in the next few months if you want to sell them on to me)
I own a few waveform cards (Rock&Pop and House&Latin) and I use them on a Yamaha RM50, so I have no experience with the ones you are being offered. The ones I have have some nice sounds.karmag wrote:Do you have any experience with using any card sets, and are they worth bothering with?

...then I can always flog them on ebay for an inflated price like everyone else?baz99 wrote:That's a good price, I'd suggest get them and if you don't like them
Oh. That works too I suppose.I'll buy them off you for the same price again (+shipping) so you can't lose out.
Nice to hear. I'm just a bit sceptical on the rompler side of the TG77 I guess.I own a few waveform cards (Rock&Pop and House&Latin) and I use them on a Yamaha RM50, so I have no experience with the ones you are being offered. The ones I have have some nice sounds.

Sure that's an option too, but I've seen many of those overpriced Yamaha cards on ebay to stick around for months without selling, so it's a lot of hassle.karmag wrote:...then I can always flog them on ebay for an inflated price like everyone else?baz99 wrote:That's a good price, I'd suggest get them and if you don't like them
Also since ebay always sides with the buyer you risk more headaches when a buyer claims the cards are defective or never arrived. For this reason I never sell anything on ebay, I prefer to sell things privately, even if I get a bit less for it.
