A good all purpose 70s string machine clone VSTi?

Hello. I'm looking an authentic sounding vintage string machine VSTi plugin. Something like the string synth heard here for instance would be ideal. What would you recommend? My budget is $30 but I might consider saving up for something pricier if it's really good.
I currently only have the EZKeys String Machine library but I think there must be something better out there, right?

You could try looking into G-Force's Virtual String Machine (VSM). Sound on Sound speak very highly of it:

Disclaimer: I have a Waldorf Streichfett which I like very much, so I don't have the VSM.

Thanks. VSM sounds quite good. I might get it on Black Friday when it's cheaper. Also, from the demos I've been hearing, Arturia's take on the Solina sounds pretty nice as well. Has anybody tried that Arturia plugin?

I think VSM is great, it's got everything. I've seen people complain that it doesn't have the synchronous clocking that a real stringer would have, but that's dumb because most of the time you're putting it through the chorus as well, which is not synchronous. Stringers are the one thing that it's VERY easy to emulate.

The Korg Lambda is perfection itself.

The Arturia Solina V is great too. Possibly more flexible than samples, but it doesn't quite do the Crumar, Korg or Roland stringers.

NI Reaktor has a perfect Jarre Eminent thru a slowed down Small Stone Phaser, so there's that.

Have you checked out any of the freeware ones? I've used String Concerto II by G-Storm.

TBH, I wouldn't bother with sample based VSTs - they offer a great deal, but never seem to sound quite authentic.

If you can push yourself to €99, I would recommend The Crumar Performer VST which I can vouch is a PERFECT rendition of the original Performer which I had for many, many years.

The "Syntronik String Box" expansion for IK Multimedia's Sampletank sounds really good and faithful to the original!

I have a new favorite. The freeware plugin called Oxid by Fullbucket does a 10/10 spot-on old school string synth sound.
