audio processing

Hi im still a bit of a newb when it comes to the final processing of my audio files, i write my parts on my hardware, record in to cubase.
Im trying to track down a program with which i can uhh cut frequencies ? like err, isolate the lower frequencies cutting out the higher of bass parts etc , if that makes sense ?
any help much appreciated
also any other programs for final processing to make my stuff sound extra nice would be good too :D
i was putting everything through vintage warmer (im not sure why ) but im sure there are better things i can be doing

Cubase Should have it's own EQs (equilizers) as part of the signal path right in the program. Rather than trying to understand all the science behind EQing, just start fiddling around with the different frequencies untill something sounds good. There's also lots of great free VST plugins to play around with for filters, synths etc....
