Another nice little free VST - stringsynth. Use it alongside the Kjaerhus phaser 
Taurus is another nice little synth I've been using. Grizzly, Chimera and Subduer are worthy of a mention too.
I like software synths to have a nice easy layout - best if everything's on one window without having to bring up too many screens or tabs. (Despite that I still like zynaddsubfx!!)

Look for Jack Dark on KVR for circuit bent emulating vsti's
I like Atlantis and I'll probably add more as I go through the 1+ gig of free vst's I have.
Cable Guys Curve looks very interesting but I haven't tried it yet. You can draw your own waveforms with your mouse and the demos I heard sound awesome.
I downloaded a buttload and most of them were available for Mac as well.
