Logic Pro question...

Post by stevenlachin » Thu Dec 06, 2007 1:45 am

I've had Logic Pro 7 for about four months now, only having tinkered with it on and off, but I'm looking to get a bit more in depth with it...

One problem, though.

During a recent move, the manual got thrown out.

I need to know how to do MIDI sequencing on it, specifically using the VST's. I'm used to the graphical, point and click, punching in sequencing method of DP, so if there are multiple MIDI sequencing methods, I'd prefer whatever's most similar to that.
Also, if there's another sequencer specifically for sequencing drums, I'd like to know how to use that as well.

I know that's kind of a lot to ask, but I honestly can't say enough how immensely appreciated and useful any help would be.

The full PDF manuals are on your computer in the application bundle, in your library docs folder, available from the help menu in Logic, and are also freely downloadble from Apple.

Not much of an excuse to not read the manual, is it..? ;)

There are editors of the 'piano roll' type, which I suspect is what you're after, as well as standard notation.
There's also a 'hyper editor' or something which I believe has some facility for sequencing drums, but I think I've used that a grand total of once, so I can't really speak to its usefulness.
If you're using the built-in Ultrabeat drum machine, that has a built-in sequencer as well.
"Sure that's fine in practice, but what about in theory?"
Some of my c**p

easy version... [more detailed version in the manual, or pdf]

-create an audio instrument track
-insert a software instrument into the box just above the fader on the track you created in the mixer view.
-in arrange view, select the pencil tool create and event on a audio instrument track.
-double click that track, and the matrix editor will open, this is your piano roll style editor.
-input the notes, and velocity, etc with the tools within the matrix editor
