Free Mac OS X VST's and plug-ins...

Post by stevenlachin » Thu Dec 06, 2007 1:46 am

What free VST's and audio plug-ins for Mac OS X would you recommend, and where can they be found?

I've searched high and low, but have hardly found anything useful.

Here are some...

Automat( great all around subtractive synth )
PluggoJr( A few plugins from the full version )
DaHornet( A nice Wasp emulator )
LiveCut( A drill and glitch style plugin )
LMC-1 compressor( the Phil Collins snare sound )

Those are just the one's I have installed right now, if you are on a PPC machine you should also check out the FishFillets package from digitalfishphones. Really miss that on my Intel mac.

Just go to www.kvraudio.com and you should find most of the free plugins released for OSX.

Wow. I am eternally indebted to you. I have no clue how I didn't stumble across this before, but this site is just...awesome.

look for greenoak's crystal, it's kind of like absynth junior.
it was designed by Glen Olander, the same person who designed Stylus RMX.
it's not an analog emulator, it's a soundscape machine! I still have a hard time believing it's free!

check it out:

I think there is a tutorial somewhere on the site, but it's actually pretty easy to program once you understand the layout of the GUI.

Togu Audio Line has some decent stuff as well - a bunch of effects, a Juno 60 emulation and a basic but rather good-sounding VA (Vintager).

Keep in mind that some of the freebies out there are Power PC-only and won't work on Intel Macs, such as Da Hornet.
Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster | Squier CV Duo-Sonic | e6400 Ultra | Blofeld | a bunch of effects
