Sony PSP music software
When looking into the Nintendo DS lite, it came to my attention that music software also exists for the Sony PSP.
Check out these babies:
"PSP Rhythm is the homebrew audio sequencer for the Sony Playstation Portable"
http://www.psprhythm.com/index.shtml
"PSPSeq is a free homebrew application for composing music on the Sony PSP handheld game system. PSPSeq contains both realtime synthesis and sample playback capability, along with multiple FX modules of widely varying types for modifying instruments in countless ways. PSPSeq also has a powerful and unique step sequencer for triggering samples and arranging loops into full songs"

yeah, we've had some nice chat with the maker (ecb) here. It has some of must heard demos which sounds so great out of a freebie and a gaming portable machine.Hugo76 wrote:PSPSeq

Re: Sony PSP music software
would I need to install a hacked OS on my PSP to use this stuff, or will it run fine on my up-to-date PSP?

since I'm still in the phase of convincing myself to get one, I'd rather pointing the link of that direct resources of people who knows about the PSP inside out for now.Hugo76 wrote:Hmm... Any news on this, crystalmsc?

Funny you mention PSPKick - it's also written by the same guy as the one-bit groovebox, Noah Vawter.crystalmsc wrote:yeah, we've had some nice chat with the maker (ecb) here. It has some of must heard demos which sounds so great out of a freebie and a gaming portable machine.Hugo76 wrote:PSPSeq

that's some of the reason that make me curious about the synth. listen to some nice lo-fi music, made just by using the PSPKick.th0mas wrote:Funny you mention PSPKick - it's also written by the same guy as the one-bit groovebox, Noah Vawter.

Re: Sony PSP music software
Yes, it seems the unit definately needs to be modified. I came across the official forum, and this issue is debated in several threads:MitchK1989 wrote:would I need to install a hacked OS on my PSP to use this stuff, or will it run fine on my up-to-date PSP?

Here's a link to a list of people that are able to do the modifications:

some people said that the older fat psp with os 1 or 1.5 is the best to run those music apps. my plan is to get a cheap used fat psp, with just a small size storage, dedicated for music apps. but still nowhere near of doing that, since I'm currently highly enjoying the slim PSP with the latest OS. May be when the new PSP3000 released, the price of the fat going to be crushed and that would be a good moment.

crystalmsc;
Are there any other differences between generation 1 & 2 of the PSP, other than size?

On the operating side, the slim is noticeably load faster (game/video) and play smoother (may be due to the additional 32Mb RAM). It's screen is brighter and the speaker sounds louder (both didn't means better, some like the fat color and sound better). Here's on the spec side:Hugo76 wrote:differences between generation 1 & 2 of the PSP
1.) Internal memory (RAM) increase from 32 MB to 64 MB
* Improved battery life due to lower power consumption, and battery recharge over the USB data connection
3.)Weight has been reduced by 33%
4.)Unit is 19% narrower (slimmer) in thickness
5.)A video-out port for displaying on a TV
6.)Improved responsiveness of d-pad and buttons (also some like the fat better)
7.)New UMD loading tray design
8.)Faster loading times by storing UMD data in temporary memory
9.)Better Wi-Fi connection
I'm using 8 gigs right now, the slim supposed to be able to read up to 16 gb.
I sense that the new PSP3000 would have a way better screen and faster hi res pic loading.

Re: Sony PSP music software
crystalmsc;
Thanks for this info. I must say the extra RAM seem tempting, plus the TV-out.
Also recharging over USB is a plus.
I saw an ad for a pandora battery pack that included instructions on how to do the mod yourself.
If I can get a PSP2000 secondhand, I might go for it+the mod-pack.

those what made me got the slim and pending the fat-homebrew joy. the newer up coming PSP-3000 supporting better video out if that's your thing.Hugo76 wrote:the extra RAM seem tempting, plus the TV-out. Also recharging over USB is a plus.
