1) should go to buyer's guide
2) don't assume that anyone knows how your bands sound. provide examples of specific songs. Youtube demos that aren't cellphone recordings in basement-sized clubs would be good, too.
3) even 2) won't help because a lot of synthesizers have overlap in sounds and it's more a matter of production than a specific synth in a lot of cases.
4) Platform? PC? Mac? VST, RTAS, AU, DXi?
5) Drummachine: Battery 3 or Guru and then a bunch of samples of older 80's drum machines, alternatively a library like this.
6) Bass synth - they don't have those anymore. In earlier times a synth with a simpler structure, monophonic would mean a drop in costs. VSTs have a monophonic mode either for the reason of emulation or for the method of playing, but no longer because of saving money.
"Part of an instrument is what it can do, and part of it is what you do to it" - Suzanne Ciani, 197x.

some free s**t to get you started:

bass:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/3119.html
http://antti.smartelectronix.com/

drums:
http://vemberaudio.se/shortcircuit.php (it's a sampler, load some drum machine samples into it)
http://www.e-phonic.com/plugins/drumatic3.php

the drum plugins above aren't really drum machines, you have to sequence them with something else...
i can't think of any good free drum machine vst's, that have their own sequencer, i mean.

Any Moog for bass synth (hard or soft) will work great.
For drums...Roland TR drum machines, any of them (hard or soft).

No, I didn't google those bands so here's my 1 cent worth.

AudioRealsim

iZotope iDrum. Microtonic Utonic

And I second the sample library approach.

And One use a lot of Yamaha DX for their bass sounds, so you might check out FM7/8 from Native Instruments...

I don't know what's up with the runescape spam, but If I were you, I'd check out µtonic for synthetic drums (either that or a 606/808/909 clone, like those available from d16, depending on if you want a flat out emulation or not) and there are TONS of synths that would work for you, so I'd suggest trying out everything you can get your hands on until you find one or more that click with you sound and interface wise.

My personal favorite softsynth is vember audio's surge, I find it allows for a lot of complexity while still being extremely user-friendly. It's at www.vemberaudio.se and costs $150, which may be a bit much for a beginner, so I'd recommend trying out some freeware first.
