Native Instruments Maschine
As a long time MPC user and also a long time Ableton Live user... I must admit that I have pre-ordered the Maschine. After watching all the videos... it seems like it'll be, if it works as NI says it does, a good alternative to the MPC. Anyone else into the NI Maschine?

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
I will definitely consider it later on, if the controller is as hands-on as the preview says and the on-board sequencer is that easy to use and set up. When (or indeed if) I ever have to go live, Maschine would be seriously cool to have with a good laptop.
But for now I run Battery 3, and that works for me. Though I must admit I am drooling heavily when thinking about how Maschine is laid out, so if it can load Battery series kits, I'm sold.

It looks very cool indeed, but it would have to be workable as a standalone unit for me to be buying it. Anyone know more about this?

if you mean just the controller without a computer, then the answer is no.Hugo76 wrote:It looks very cool indeed, but it would have to be workable as a standalone unit for me to be buying it. Anyone know more about this?
also it does not load battery kits..maybe later.

Too bad... It's not for me then. Still a cool bit of kit, though!bluedad wrote:if you mean just the controller without a computer, then the answer is no.

Been looking for a "grown up drum machine" for a while and I think this will fit my particular needs nicely...

I might be interested once the plug in has midi out. Right now you can use the controller as a pad controller for other software, but you can't use the sequencer for anything but the maschine software itself yet.
Re: Native Instruments Maschine
Ah, so you want it to be true MPC clone huh Mitch?

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
I just would find it a lot more interesting if I could compose using its sequencer without having to use samples for everything, especially since I'm not terribly fond of using samples for melodic parts. Being able to sequence µTonic and Surge with it would be awesome.JSRockit wrote:Ah, so you want it to be true MPC clone huh Mitch?

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
At first I thought the Maschine looked pretty good the way it worked. Then I noticed it wasn't hardware. Bummer. I would have to use my audio interface to sample which I can already do without it.
I don't remember the exact buzzwords they were using but I think they were pushing speed. They can switch sounds as fast as they want, or even telepathically, they just weren't convincing me. If I am going to throw down for a sampler I want it to be able to sample on it own. I don't like it when a piece of gear requires something else to function, like monome's.
I like how it works though. I think I read that it can't be used to sequence other gear though. Is that true? That would suck if you liked the interface. And latency! One thing I hate about sampling/recording with software is latency and having to adjust things to line up right.
Then again either way you have to work on your samples when doing songs but live? I could hear it sounding terrible in my head. Samples all off and stuff.

Ditto. As I slowly get into Live for Dj/Performance the APC40 has the goods. Hopefully it works good on release and no nightmare stories.diezdiazgiant wrote:Apc40 has more of my attention

Re: Native Instruments Maschine
JSRockit, it does let you use the maschine as a midi controller, but the sequencer itself is part of the plugin. So although you can use Maschine as a pad controller for other software, you can't use it to arrange entire songs using its sequencer unless you use maschine sample based sounds only.
