Using guitar output for synths

Post by Rawrasaur » Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:30 am

I was wondering if anyone had tried using the output from a a plucked guitar string and used it as the wave for an modulating envelope? If so, what programs did you use? Im sure its possible to do in reaktor, but I honestly dont understand dsp well enough to make anything. The programs I have dont allow me to replace the simple envelope wave with a sample.

You don't need to understand DSP at all; just see if there's a module somewhere that's called "Envelope Follower". If you have Reaktor, that is.

The envelope follower can be found on several guitar pedals - it's how a wah effect basically works; the cutoff of a bandpass filter is controlled by the output of an envelope follower.
