SPARK Vintage Drum Machines

Post by meatballfulton » Tue May 08, 2012 5:45 pm

This one sort of slipped under the radar, but back in March Arturia announced a software only version of Spark called Spark Vintage Drum Machines.

Here's a YOUTube "review". Some cool stuff for only $99.

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Wow, I don't know if it's the YouTube encoding or what, but that sounds pretty bad. There are better sounding samples of all those machines all over the web for free.

They sound very good when not compressed through You Tube and tiny, tinny speakers.
Muhahahahahahahahaha!

+1....I bought Spark last year when it came out (controller and software). I can attest to the bad sound quality of that particular YouTube video. I was at Sweetwater's GearFest last summer and saw the Arturia rep demoing the Spark. That is what sold me on it. The sound was absolutely great, and I was blown away by it. It seemed like such a perfect drum machine. Here I am almost a year later, and I still think the same thing. This could very well be the only drum machine I need in my collection from here forward. The ease of use combined with the great quality in samples makes it great choice to me.

They changed most of the names slightly... you know, so Roland, Korg, Yamaha etc won't sue.

^This

Not owning any, but I've always had a sweetspot for the Arturia stuff. Great to see they're taking a shot on drum machines.

I have it. Sounds great. Interface is a bit weird but as I spend more time with it I'm sure it will become second nature.

WAtching demos, I find the interface fairly similar to Logic's Ultrabeat.

Keep in mind the interface UI is designed to go with the controller...
