Try Bitwig. It's a DAW very similar to Ableton Live but runs on Linux (Ubuntu I believe) and has built in synths.

U-he.com are porting to linux, there's a thread on their forum. Also, discodsp have some of their stuff ported to Linux.
Loomer Aspect is a nice synth too. Get it from www.loomer.co.uk.

Re: Synthesizers for linux
There are a lot of synths available on Linux, my personal favorites (all free):
Zynaddsubfx - very powerful, but has a complicated UI
Helm - open source synthesizer, lots of modulation options
Amsynth - analog modeling synthesizer
LMMS - sequencer/DAW with some nice built in synths
JUCEOPLVSTi - OPL chip (AdLib/soundblaster) emulating synthesiser

Re: Synthesizers for linux
I use Bristol. Nice (low res) renderings of classic synths. But your best option will be the vast collection of (free) VST's that were written for Windows. I use the DAW called LMMS for that (it's in the standard repo's). There's also Ardour, but installing it and learning how to use a Windows VST in it is a pain (think poking your eye w/ a needle pain).
You might also find the Linux Musicians forum handy.
Good luck!

Name one good song without a Minimoog.

Yes; most VSTs (the free ones, anyway), work just fine in linux using Wine. LMMS includes a VST app, I've done a good bit of testing of the newest and best free VSTs with LMMS, and posted the results at the LMMS database here:

Re: Synthesizers for linux
From what I see about Kylin at Distrowatch and Ubuntu , I don't see why not. Do you have Synaptic Package Manager installed? If so, open it and do a search for the synth you are interested in. You may need to install the ubuntu-studio package to be able to find some of them.iamanna91 wrote:I have been looking for linux synthesizer and have tried recommended here.
