S-950 advice problems im trying to solve if ((((possible))))

Post by silversurfer1919 » Thu May 03, 2007 4:57 am

ok i bought an Akai S-950 3 weeks ago and right now i just got to trying to figure it out and play around with it and i sampled into the sampler tonight and was able to get a sample to sound off from my midi keyboard an axiom and play with ableotn live but not really it the sample was cancelling out shutting off every other loop around then i turned off ableton and i dont remember what the h**l i did the sample doesnt sound off anymore i only hear it faintly if i turn the volume up and not only that this is why i think my sampler is faulty i had it hooked up to a juno 106 as a controller and when i press a key on the 106 i dont hear anything but if i press like 3 keys at the same time or bang 2 keys held down that would trigger the sample at a low barely heard sound...now why is my akai doing this i thought these things were built tuff i dont want to jump ahead theres a possibility that theres nothing wrong but my midi channels and the receive match...i went thru all the outputs but i shouldnt have to have done this because originally i had a full sound going....not only that the seller when i bought it didnt bubblewrap the machine and i had to blow out a piece of styrophone when i opened the machine just seems weird to me how to trigger a sample thats mapped across the whole keyboard i have to hit more than one key

i also tried taking my headphones and plugging them into the outs probably not a good idea tho..but couldnt get a sound

omni is on so its receiving on all channels somethins not right here any Akai S-950 owners agree is there something im overlooking here??

p.b.-playback doesnt even trigger the sample but if i press more than one key on my controller that will trigger plus its not playing loud

any insights or advice would be appreciated if i can solve this problem

and is it common for on s-950s for the mix output to be extremely noisy?? because it is amd the individual outs are barely noisy faint

i assume something's wrong with hardware. did you try different midi cables? if cables are ok i think you should take the sampler to someone who can inspect its guts and tell whether or not it's the cause of the problem/

Then i turned off Ableton, and I dont remember what the h**l I did but the sample doesnt sound off anymore, I only hear it faintly if I turn the volume up.

Not only that, this is why I think my sampler is faulty: I had it hooked up to a Juno 106 as a controller and when I pressed a key on the 106 I didn't hear anything, but if I pressed like 3 keys at the same time or banged 2 keys held down that would trigger the sample at an almost inaudible level.

Now why is my Akai doing this? I thought these things were built tough. I dont want to jump ahead, there's a possibility that there's nothing wrong, but my midi transmit and recieve channels match... I went through all the outputs, but I shouldn't have to do this because originally I had a full sound going. Not only that, but the seller when I bought it didn't bubblewrap the machine and I had to blow out a piece of styrofoam when I opened the machine.

It just seems weird to me that to trigger a sample that's mapped across the whole keyboard i have to hit more than one key.

I also tried taking my headphones and plugging them into the outs. Probably not a good idea though... But I still couldn't get a sound.

P.S: Playback doesn't trigger the sample but if I press more than one key on my controller that will, though not very loudly.

I thought you might get some more responses if your question was easier to read, so I've corrected it and added some extra formatting above.
