does anyone know what synth/patch/preset produces the short funky synth riff that is played about every few bars quite high on root down by the bestie boys - sounds slightly 'organy' but a bit more resonant/digital tonally.
I'm sure i hear it absolutely loads on techno/dance tracks and it really cuts through and comes into its own at high volume levels.
I'm 99.9% sure it is just a preset on a dx or something - i just can't work it out!
what synth/preset? on beastie boys - root down

Indeed the song is almost all constructed from the Root down sample. Thats one of my favourite songs. (the origional Jimmy Smith version) Also the Beastie boys version is where the Prodigy got the "Oh my god that's the funky s**t!" sample from Funky s**t. Come to think of it, Fat Of The Land is one of my favourite albums as well.

Early 90's dance music was rife with that "organ bass" patch, most likely from a D-50 or a DX-7 or something like that. Granted it doesn't sound at all like the huge bass you can get out of a real B-3, it was a real staple in house music for quite a while.
