MPC1000 - Blue vs Black

ok...i have a good price on a blue MPC1000, but i am having trouble finding the differences between blue and black MPC1000s online. any glaring differences that i should be aware of? thanks

Both blue and black versions are the exact same to my knowledge, although I have heard that the newer black ones may have upgraded pads.

Be careful about buying a 1000 though. You could end up with dead pads like I did. I suggest testing the MPC out before you commit to buy it. Make sure all the pads are responsive and everything works.. and if you've never played with the 1000 before, I'd definitely recommend trying it at Guitar Center or Sam Ash first. The pads are the cheapest and most stiff of any MPC ever made. Some people consider that a desirable quality though.

Just make sure you know what you're getting before you drop the $$$!

I used a blue MPC1000 for a few years without any pad issues...I sold it to a fellow VSE-er recently. As long as you don't pound on the pads like a j**ka**, you should be alright. You should make sure, if you are buying, that it has no pad issues. There are no differences between the two except color.

thanks guys. if its a matter of pads, i can always swap them out. i have an MPC2000, so i guess its also a matter of getting used to the new pads.

not cheap, but indeed a good purchase. my mpc1000 haven't felt as good since i first bought it.

And the pads on my blue MPC 1000 are great, I think it's very much a matter of opinion

Both versions (older black models not the newest ones) are exactly the same there is no difference other than the color. However if you were to buy a brand spanking fresh one then make sure it has new pads. As for the older pads it is well known that there are mad problems with them.

Ex: I bought mine brand new two years ago and it had a dead pad, had to exchange it for a new one. Recently I purchased the pad upgrade and its been smooth sailing since.

The major problem is that each pad on the older ones are individual pads with this own individual circuitry. Problems such as dead pads, ghost notes etc. can arise. Its not just imagination (check out mpc-forums).

My advice would be to spring for a cheap used one and get that pad upgrade. Also dont for get to get the jjos as akai os is straight up shite

i painted those buttons and wheels myself its pretty easy to do get some vinyl spray paint (dupli color brand makes those) but you have to make sure its vinyl because it adheres better to the buttons than reg spray, i did it to all of my mpcs, my 2500 is all black as well with black pads and my 2000xl is a mix of grey and tan.
