Sampler with Trigger inputs????

Post by Forefatherss » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:18 pm

Basically I am looking for a sampler that has some trigger inputs. I have no idea if this even exist!! Basically I want to sample my own loops from records and my keyboards onto a sampler then play them on separate drum pads. Which brings up my next thought which is could a midi controller pad like an Alesis Control Pad or Roland SPD that has midi be plugged into a sampler with midi and be controlled that way?? I am guessing it can but I would want to make sure I could have control over what sound is on all 8 pads and not just one sound at a time. Anyways this may sound amateur as I am a drummer trying to incorporate samples into my set but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Akai S900 had 8 trigger inputs as an option, with velocity sensing and all that. I've got a drummer mate with one in his rig and it seems to work pretty well.

As to your second question; yep, that's easy. Drum signals over MIDI are just normal MIDI notes, so you just need to set up the keyboard range for each sample to whatever key each pad is sending.

According to the Akai S2800i manual, an audio/MIDI drum trigger interface called ME35T (it's a single-rack unit) can be used in conjunction with the sampler, and probably with any other S3000-series machine.

Have a look here: http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2006/12 ... igger.html

any drum brain will work also. a sampler allows you to assign any sample to a single key or key range and it can be triggered by any type of midi controller

what you need is a sampler, and a midi controller to trigger it. I do this live, I use an alesis control pad and an MPC 1000 midi'd together. They work well together:

Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

Midi is a bit sluggish. I think trigger inputs would have tighter and more accurate timing. Check out the Dynacord ADD One Drum sampler

The Kurzweil K2500 can use its sample inputs as triggers, but I don't know which other Kurzweil models, if any, can do this.
