Ensoniq ASR-10 SCSI to USB adapters

Post by michaelvertex » Fri Dec 19, 2008 10:54 pm

Since SCSI is dead, how well does the ASR-10 work with SCSI to USB adapters? I am an apple user and would also like to eventually pick up an ASR-10 if it can perform with the said adapter for sample transfer. Anyone have one for sale?

I dunno about the SCSI to USB adapters, but an ACARD SCSI to IDE adapter may work. Only problem is, your sampler may not be able to read a hard drive larger than 8 GB, depends on the chip they used for SCSI.

I doubt if any sampler would communicate via SCSI to USB. SMDI is quite picky about what it's connected to. It's bes to have an older PC/ Mac around with SCSI for that kind of work.

Or just use Kontakt :)

I dont know anything about Ensoniq but some EMU users got this working with Adaptec's USBXchange.
I had no luck using this with my akai s- series on WInXP :( I was advised to roll back to win 98 but that was not an option .
Have in mind that MacosX is not SCSI friendly, so your only chance is Mac OS 9.
Also note that the newer version of adaptec's adapter USB2Xchange is not Mac compatible.
Belkin and some no name ebay adapters are reported not to work in such applications.
Unfortunatelly , most info about these adapters and samplers was available 7-8 years ago but now it is gone :(
It is all about sharing...
