looking 4 sample source- prodigy firestarter 'hey'

I am trying to source the sample used in the prodigy tune firestarter - it's the pitched up shout 'hey' which is used most towards the end of the track.

It's also used in earlier prodigy tunes - eg. full throttle on '...jilted generation' album.

I have also heard it used on a few other lower profile tracks and white label garage tunes...

Just wondered if anyone knew a tune with it on that has it isolated enough to sample???

It's Close To The Edit by Art Of Noise.
Watch out because they will sue you if you have a hit.
Apparently Prodigy lost most of the royalties from Firestarter because of that sample.

Which is stupid, because all you have to do is slightly alter that "Hey" and it's yours.

no worries on the lawsuit ill only be using it for live gigs.

i could always just reverse it like they did to the star wars sample on full throttle....... (dunno if they got away with that?)

fletriste; they actually used it on 'Full Throttle' also? Been a while since I listened to that tune, is it on the album or single version (seem to remember there were some differences there...(?).

I thought AoN produced "Firestarter". I must have read wrong...

full throttle is prob my fav tune on jilted. go listen you will hear the 'hey' sample. the album version is a slight edit compared to the single version - i think they were seriously squeezed for space on the jilted CD (the dit only seems to save them about 15 seconds...). The other difference is the star wars sample of luke skywalker saying' we're going in full throttle' plays forward on the single and reversed on the album.

Thanks for the info, fletriste. Yeah, I remember the Skywalker sample being 'tampered' with, something I found a bit annoying - so I guess I still prefer the single version
I guess the reason for Art Of Noise only suing when Firestarter came out, is that the sample in that tune is so prominent. And of course Firestarter being a single release, with Full Throttle only a b-side on the One Love single.

Not true. If it can be recognized at all, then you can be sued. It's much easier to take care of it in the first place, or just buy a mic and get a friend to imitate it.

Or even better, write the artist and ask for permission to use it. Mostly you'll get a "sure, no problem as long as you don't sample the entire song". Except if you want to sample ABBA, then you have to be Madonna.

At least it's better than getting a letter saying "You'll hear from my lawyers really soon".

I'm sure I read somewhere that the original AON "Hey!" sample was Paula Yates from back when she used to co-present The Tube.
