I went to one of my junk fests at the weekend looking for spare tubes and ended up liberating a poor old Casio SK-1 thrown in a trailer full of junk for a $1 !! I took it home, polished it up and it works a treat. For those who like their ultra grundgy 9KHz sampling, the SK-1 was the world's first home sampler for less than $100. Despite it being a toy and having mini keys it had auto triggered sampling with portamento and 4 note polyphony - not bad for 1985. What I like about it is you hit the sample button and play something into it - the SK-1 auto triggers and thats it - no truncation or sample setup - it couln't be easier!
Believe it or not it is even possible to MIDI retrofit this beasty....
