Need help with ESI-32 loop point / crossfade

Ok here's the deal, I have sampled some of my favourite patches from my JX-8P to my pc and made wav files with loop points and crossfade in sound forge 4 (old but good). I read that the ESi can read wav files with sound forge 4x loop point, and it does. But unfortunately it won't read the nice crossfade I made in SF. I have tried them also with the sampler in orion 7 which reads all the xfade and loop info in the file. They are nice and smooth, and sound very good. I don't have much experience with sample editing on the ESi because most of the time I use the EIIIX library on scsi cd-rom. I am simply not able to make a good crossfade in the ESi, and my best results are miles off the original nice crossfade in the wav file. :( The manual is not very helpful on the area either. Any advice here will be deeply appreciated !

Also, is there a pc program that will make finished presets in the ESi's format? The only program I have so far is ESi-Win which I use to write wav files to an ESi bank on floppy. Surely they must have used some kind of computer program when they made all the library samples?

Look for Loop Processing tools. The forward and backward arrows will help you zip to the zero-crossings. The esi-32 has 2 crossfade styles: Equal Power, and linear - both which sound good in different instances. Experiment with the crossfade time, maybe a second or two to taste, and you'll get some good results. I usually say no for 'truncate after loop?'.

Thanks! I will try it out.
I have also tried chickensys translator, and it reads my samples right with loop points and crossfades. And I was even able to convert it to ESi preset format. But how do I get it over to the ESi? Because it won't read DOS formatted disks. MIDI sample dump maybe?

I used to do it via SCSI. Sound Forge supported it, not sure, can't remember...you need SCSI in your PC. You need to adjust the loop points because of a bug in the ESI...

Actually, here's an article I wrote:

It's all in there, no need for me to remember :)

You wrote that? Very nice! I have read that article many times before actually, most recently yesterday.. :D
I think I will just have to try and fail, and follow the guidelines you have given me. Or stick with the library.

Thanks, guys.
