Akai S3000XL - Clock Source

Post by lostyetfound » Wed Feb 10, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi Guys,
Wonder if you can help me here?

I've just got an S3000XL. I want to use the digital in/out in conjunction with my MOTU 828 MK3 and Logic 9.

I have it connected as TOSLINK, the MOTU is the clock source and works fine with my Behringer ADA8000, but with the Akai, there are noticeable "clicks" during playback and sampling. These are not here when the analogues are used.

Everything is set to 44.1Khz

From experience, this leads me to believe that the Akai isn't receiving the clock from the MOTU.

There are no other ways to connect the Akai to an external clock source (no BNC connection etc) and I can't seem to find in the manual where you set the clock source on the Akai. Is this possible or does it have to be the master (like the Roland Fantom X)?

Any ideas would be great?

The Akai will have to be the clock master, when you are recording from its digital out into the MOTU, there's no other way to do it if there is not a separate word clock input.

If you set the Akai to receive clock from the MOTU and the try to record from the Akai's digital output, you will get clicks because it is trying to be master and slave simultaneously.

If figured as much, just as with the Fantom.

I have an 8 channel A->D converter also connected to the MOTU (it has 2 lots of digital in/outs) so the MOTU has to be the master for that to work, so I can't use the AKAI as master.

Cheers anyway, I'll just have to use the analogues.
