Emulator X3: Multisamples with time expansion/compression?
I am starting up with my Emulator X3 and have a question: Can this sampler expand and compress the time of samples to keep the same speed of the sample while changing the pitch? I only could make out the vice versa function of changing the speed of the sample while keeping the pitch (e.g. to manipulate the speed of drum-loops).
Does anyone know if there is a way to make multisamples with time expansion/compression? I tried to make a multisample of an lfo-modulated synth sound. I set a root key for each octave. Going up the octave, the speed of the sample (and therefore the modulation) increased. Is there no automatic function for sample time and pitch adaption?
Thanks!

Good programming is worth more than the most expensive synthesizer.

Not that works in real time. That's why you usually apply LFO to the sample in the sampler.

Re: Emulator X3: Multisamples with time expansion/compressio
This means I cannot take advantage of the nice analog filter-modulations of my hardware synths and will have to use the filters and modulations of the emulator x3? The z-plane-filters of the emulator are great, but I am looking to "preserve" the most accurate digital copy of my hardware synth sounds for live performance. Is there no sampler in the world, that can automatically make multisamples with time expansion/compression?Ashe37 wrote:Not that works in real time. Sure, you just increase the number of samples so you dont hear the LFO stretching.

Yes, thanks! I sampled the keys C D# F# and A over all octaves and made my first multisample: A polyphonic "MS-10 Pad" with filter- and pulse width-modulation. It sounds sweet!Ashe37 wrote:Sure, you just increase the number of samples so you dont hear the LFO stretching.

Cool, glad it worked out for ya.

So, what's the deal with Emulator X? Still in development? I never got around to upgrading from v2. Worth it?

No word on that, really.

Re: Emulator X3: Multisamples with time expansion/compressio
I guess "twista loop" to automatically generate different loops out of a sampled piece of music is a new feature of the X2 and X3.Hugo76 wrote:So, what's the deal with Emulator X? Still in development? I never got around to upgrading from v2. Worth it?
That's what E-MU says about the new features in Emulator X3:
Xstream™
New improved and Vista compatible Xstream 24-bit/129kHz Streaming Engine-32-bit and native 64-bit applications optimized for Multi-core and Multi-threaded processors. Xstream intelligently balances the processing load across all available resources for exceptional performance.
Region Xplode Beat Slicer
This great new feature translates recorded drum parts into MIDI files. The Xplode function generates new voices from the selected Region, then creates a MIDI file that maps the new regions to MIDI notes. Just import the Standard MIDI File into your favorite MIDI sequencer and have authentic drum grooves under your control.
Tempo Map Export
TwistaLoop can now analyze and export the Tempo Map of a song. This indispensable tool allows you to synchronize a rhythm track to a performance that was recorded without a metronome. You sequencer will "groove" with you instead of marching to its own beat.
Xtractor™
The Xtractor is a new audio manipulation tool that can cut or boost audio levels based on stereo position and frequency. If a song was mixed using stereo panning, this tool allows specific instruments or vocals to be removed, isolated, or pitch shifted. You can remove or isolate vocals, basses, or other instruments, process them and then return them to the mix if you like. The Xtractor is also a powerful analysis tool, since it visually displays the location of each instrument in a stereo mix.
Translator Convertor
The Translator Emulator X Convertor, by Chicken Systems, enables you to convert many popular sampler formats into the Emulator X's .exb file format. The bundled Translator Emulator X Convertor application can convert the following types of files:
Akai S-1000/3000
Akai MPC
Emu EIII/ESi/Emax
Tascam GigaStudio 1 + 2
SoundFont
Native Instruments Kontakt 1 + 2
Steinberg HALion I and I
Good programming is worth more than the most expensive synthesizer.

Thanks for the info, sepiakeys, I'll take a closer look at the Emulator X2 the coming days
