ESI-32 Help!
I picked up an ESI-32 w/upgraded 32mb memory about 4 months ago and so far it has just been sitting there unused among my gear... I downloaded the disk images for the factory samples (a set of 10 or so 3.5" 1.44mb floppies) and made disks of them, i can load up the sample banks from the disks (which is rather timely) for each set ... but i have to do this EVERY single time i turn the unit on. Can i actually store them to the 32mb internal memory? or does a person have to load samples from an external source all over again every time the ESI is turned off then on again? Any help would be extremely appreciated as i'd actually like to get some use out of it.
Much thanks in advance

Re: ESI-32 Help!
Yes, that is the curse of the hardware sampler..
Memory is only temporary storage, and you lose everything when the machine is turned off. You can get a hard disk for your ESI but you would still have to load the programs / samples into memory.

Re: ESI-32 Help!
and with shipping it costs over twice what the sampler cost me
Re: ESI-32 Help!
Just get yourself a SCSI zip and/or hard drive on a SCSI chain. I have both, together with a SCSI CD drive on a single chain to an ESI4000. A SCSI HD will probably load the fastest but a zip will be cheaper.
If your ESI32 hasn't got the SCSI port, just buy another that has (preferably an ESI4000 with more memory). All the ESI's go for buttons these days and are great for the money once you've built up your library.

Re: ESI-32 Help!
Yeah mine has the SCSI port, i'm trying to track down an external cd drive for it so i can burn some of the sample sets that are so readily available online and i figure that should keep me busy for a while ... i just hope i dont have compatability issues once i find and shell out the money for the cd drive
Re: ESI-32 Help!
I'm afraid that's a bit of hit and miss..., just don't pay over the odds then if it doesn't communicate, just re-sell on Ebay for the same price.
Mine is an Aiwa ACD-300. There's one on Ebay here for $50:

Re: ESI-32 Help!
Thanks for the great advIce! Does anyone know what sample formats the ESI-32 is compatible with? Like ... can it use E6400 or esi-2000 or esi-4000 etc samples?
Re: ESI-32 Help!
No manual eh?
From memory it will be compatible between the other ESI's but not always between a different OS. I once sent some sounds to an ESI32 owner from my ESI4000 and they didn't load due to different OS.
You can convert from Emulator IV, Emulator IIIx, Emax II and Akai S1000/1100 libraries:
http://www.keyboardmuseum.com/ar/e/emu/esi32.html
I've bought many Akai S1000 libraries for conversion and they've worked well with no loss of quality.

Check out the information from the Emulator Archive site.colorbars wrote:Thanks for the great advIce! Does anyone know what sample formats the ESI-32 is compatible with? Like ... can it use E6400 or esi-2000 or esi-4000 etc samples?

note, the 2000/4000 etc have to be exportedin a earlier OS version. If you have 3.02 you should be good to go.
If you would like to load the 2000/4000 you should upgrade to 3.02. You can buy the upgrade here:
http://www.eprelectronics.com/store/htm ... -E-66.html
You need both EPROM OS chips @$14.58 each. This upgrade also gives you the z filters.
