E-MU Emax II OS Boot Disk Needed!

Post by Biepang » Sun Jan 02, 2011 7:32 pm

I recently had the good fortune of being given a free E-MU Emax II (Model # 2212) by a generous individual who runs a local recording studio. Needless to say, I was elated. But, since it did not come with the OS boot disk, I have yet to use it.

I assumed I would find numerous ebay sellers offering copies of the OS disk for sale...Wrong, nothing there.
I found a couple of sites like the Silveria Family Emax II User's Group, Route 66 Studios and Emulator Archive who offer the OS disk for sale by email request, but none of them have responded to my emails.
I also found the EMX program, which can supposedly copy the OS to floppy disk, but I read that the disks will only work if they have been formatted on the Emax II itself.
So, I have this awesome old machine sitting in front of me, but no way of using it! :(

Is there anyone reading this who wouldn't mind sending me a copy of the OS 2.14 disk???
I'm dying to use my new machine!

I ended up solving the problem last night. I was able to download the OS 2.14 file from the Yahoo Emax II User Group (which seems to be the only place on the internet where this file is still available to download!). I used OmniFlop to format the disk for Emax and then used EMXP to copy the OS to floppy disk. Loaded the disk into the Emax II and re-copied the OS over to a Zip100 drive via SCSI. Worked like a charm, without any errors like I was expecting.

Unfortunately, after getting the machine up and running, I found that everything works except for the keyboard. It appears the previous owner spilled cola on the keys and it corroded the connector leads and all the traces on the pcb around it. Off to work on that...
