Been thinking about using an old school sampler to see if it can impart some mojo into my tracks. Would be interested to find out how people incorporate their samplers into their DAW based setup. I think if I were to use h/w I'd probably still sequence in the daw and then right at the end when I'm happy with the track I'd send all the samples over to the sampler and use it like an outboard processor and record it all back into the DAW. I'm interested in finding out methods for making the process as painless and unlaborious as possible. Any tips?

This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

Now that I have a DAW I have the power of endless multitracking.. so I just have an Akai s612. It's the punchiest of the Akai's. Would also like to get a Mirage someday.. but this might fill that niche..

Hardware samplers will never be erradicated from the face of the earth, I don´t even consider them as "old school". Just take a look to the Octatrack.
I just find suspicious the idea of replacing them with computer sampling tools.... why?

Was looking at the used inventory of a local music store online today and noticed an Akai S2000 for $49.
The price when new was $1200 and considered a bargain at the time...
Oh, the same store had an early Roland sampler for $30...

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

There's a giant difference between an S2000 and an Octatrack; the latter has a pleasant interface.balma wrote:Just take a look to the Octatrack.
Because if you're using samplers with SCSI harddisks and 72-pins SIMMs found in bog-standard computers, you're not that far removed from a computer. Not to mention mouse and monitor hookups for the Roland S-series.I just find suspicious the idea of replacing them with computer sampling tools.... why?
