Apples and oranges

Post by nabot » Wed Nov 30, 2011 9:08 pm

Hi, Vintage Synthers !

I have a question which may be a fairly simple one... Even if it is my opinion that most of the time, in the musical domain, no questions are that simple, given the almost infinite number of possibilites and elements that makes music and sound and machines and blabla

Let's go to the point : I play prerecorded beats in Ableton and send them via MIDI to my EHX 2880 loop pedal. The 2880 then slaves to Ableton and I can play guitar or whatever and create live loops that stay in sync with the beat playing.

NOW

I'm looking for a way to replace Ableton by something real. A hardware device. Mostly because I don't like relying on my computer in live gigs.

My question is : What am I looking for ? I'm quite lost in all the choices there are. Am I looking for a sequencer ? A drum machine ? A groovebox ? etc. etc.

The goal is to put my mixed and polished beats in a real and portative machine which would play them in high quality while sending the midi clock information to my 2880.

That's pretty much it..! Simple ? I'm sure you will proove me wrong

Thanks !
