AKAI S612 mains connection

Post by Freem79 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 10:09 pm

Hi there,

Hoping someone can help. I recently purchased an AKAI S612 sampler off EBay but have been unable to use it as yet as the seller didn't supply it with a mains lead. Having looked at the connection, I'm unsure as to what I need in order to get it powered up. Even Maplin didn't have any clues!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

Looks like this one http://www.thomann.de/nl/schulz_nrk2.htm.
I use one with my Korg DS-8 which is from the same period.
The connector is 21 x 12 mm.

Hi,

try to replace it with a regular three pin socket.. That has the advantage that you can install a proper ground connection as well..
If you don't know what I am talking about, get a techie to do it for you. I am not responsible for any damage you are doing to your sampler or yourself.

I replaced the socket on all my units that used those connectors (S10, S50, S330, S550, S700, S900/950, DSS1, DS8 etc). Most of the times you don't even need to widen the hole and the screws fit as well.
But you should know where the hot end of the soldering iron is and some heatshrink could help, too..

Cheers,
Malte

Yeah, I've just replaced those with IEC sockets in the past. Usually a couple minutes' work with a file and a soldering iron.
