single-cycle samples of 80s digi waveform synths

Post by colmon » Mon Aug 17, 2015 12:08 pm

in particular i'm looking for the ppg wave wavetables; i found the waveterm library but cannot find the og ppg wavetables anywhere. also hoping to find esq-1/sq-80 waves, prophet vs, dw-8000, basically any single-cycle waveforms from the classic era of digital synthesis! if anybody has any links or personal archives they would be kind enough to share or anything - i would be greatly appreciative!

You can find the SQ-80 waves here-- http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/index.html
"Sure that's fine in practice, but what about in theory?"

There are only 3 waveforms available: bells, accordian, and banjo.

All the Prophet VS waveforms were up somewhere a while ago, maybe on the DSI site? I'll see if I can find them…

edit: I can't remember where I found them, but I found them on my HD, here they are: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ja0tc8wn6cnu ... 6MhOa?dl=0

I might not keep them up there for long, so if it's weeks after I posted this and you follow the link and there's nothing there anymore please don't PM me for them.

It's fun to load them all up in the Octatrack and then use it as a synth/scan through them.

Perhaps the free Korg Bonus Sample Packs are useful for you? Pack # 1 contains "Sample sounds of the legendary Korg keyboards" such as "PolySix, M1,T1, WAVESTATION, Trinity and similar".

those seem to be for the MicroSampler. How do you use them with anything else?

There's a free editor for the MicroSampler at that same location. It supports WAV import and export.

Worth playing with for a half hour to see if you can extract the samples from the packs?

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

1) Install the Korg MIDI driver (plus possibly a bugfix tool)

2) Install the Korg microSampler Editor (there is also a Mac version)

3) Import the sample bank data

4) Select the sample you want and export it as a .wav file (refer to page 20 of the Editor manual, which is included in the Editor .zip file).

All software mentioned in this post is available for free from the official Korg website. The microSAMPLER Editor also runs without the actual instrument being connected to your computer. In other words: You don't need the Korg microSAMPLER for the above mentioned procedure.

EDIT: meatballfulton already posted while I was still typing ;).
