"Crackling" Problems with Audio Recording and Play

Post by burns46824 » Sat Oct 28, 2006 7:58 am

Once again, I'm having troubles with audio recording and playback on my RME Fireface. I'm using it on the XP side of my MacBook Pro.

All the drivers are fully updated. I just upgraded to Cubase 4, which is compatible with MacBook Pros, and I'm STILL getting "crackling" sounds during playback and recording. It doesn't only happen when recording external instruments, either. I hear it when I'm using soft synths as well. What should I do?

Are you using any pirated software? Sometimes programs are designed to cause random noise during recording and playback to help stop illegal copies from spreading.

No the Cubase is legit. Umm...my copy of Waves is not tho. Still, I hear noise even when I'm not using Waves. Could that still be the problem?

the same thing happens on mine sometimes
it's because both the daw and the rme interface' word clock are set to internal
if your using the rme clock you have to set cubase's clock to adat or what ever your inputting the interface to

I have the Fireface on "AutoSync," not Internal. Gkoop, I think you might have an answer for me though...you seem to be on the right track b/c I know what you're talking about. It probably has something to do with sync as you say. What exactly should I do? I mean, spell it out for me, because I don't really know what to do with Cubase 4's sync stuff. I have it on VST sync or whatever...

What about your buffer settings????

Needs to be maxed out when running multiple tracks etc... up it to 1024 and see if that helps (in CB4)

okay
I don't know the exact terminology because I don't use cubase, but here's what I understand
It has to do with the word clock.
both the fireface, and cubase are trying to use their own wordclock, but you can only use one
on my interface (I dont have the fireface I have the octamic D) I have the clock set to internal, and in protools I have the clock souce set to ADAT, as the interface is plugged into the adat port of my digi 002
does that help?

Hmm...I'm not using ADAT because the Fireface IS my audio card. Man, I am confused...

And no, jasedee, a buffer size of 1024 is ridiculous. I'm using a MacBook Pro after all, not a 10 year old Windows PC.
