Hi dear community
I'm totally desperate because I have asked many forums and searched the web for days but there is no answer to my question. It looks like I am the first human being with that problem and I hope that there is someone in the forum that can help me:
What I want: my MS-20 to re-trigger filter cutoff every time I press a new key. MS-20 can't do that so I need an external envelope such as the Doepfer A-140 (I'm not interested in a Midi-CV converter - it supposed to be possible with a Eurorack module).
My problem: The A-140 requires a GATE in and a Re-Trigger in. The MS-20 has no Gate out. Only KBD CV and Trigger. CV sends Hz/V. Trigger works as a trigger. In Theory it might work but I need to be 100% sure before I buy the A-140.
My question: Is the MS-20 able to send somehow a Gate and a Trigger? IF yes, where is that Gate and will it work with the Doepfer? Anyone has experience with exactly this isuue?
Any help will be much appreciated
Using external re-triggering ADSR with MS-20

Re: Using external re-triggering ADSR with MS-20
It's almost 25 years ago I had an MS20 so the knowledge is a bit rusty.
As far as I know the MS20 KBD sends out 2 signals only (check the patch panel):
- CV
- Trig
However, and this you need to check, what was called 'Trig' on the MS20 I believe is actually a Gate.
Check it out please: what happens on the Trig Output as long as you press a key?
If the output change is constant as long as you keep pressing keys, and only falls back when you release all keys, then actually this 'Trig' is behaving as a gate, and then an external EG will not be helpful.
If however each time you press a key the Trig changes and immediately falls back again (in like 10 ms time), it is acting as a Trig. But I doubt this because else you would not have the issue you are trying to resolve.
For comparison: check other analog keyboards; you will find some that have three outputs: CV, Trig ànd Gate.
Be aware an MS20 CV is not compliant with the Eurorack standard of 1V/Octave. I believe it is doing something rather like 1V/1000 Hz. To use another keyboard to play your MS20, make sure they can work with that Korg standard. I believe the Arturia Keystep is capable of it, but it does not provide a trig output, only a gate so that one is not helpful.
But a keyboard that outputs trig and complies with the Korg Pitch CV would give you the retrig effect you look for.
