EMU EMAX weird display issue !

Hi,
I'm fresh users of Emax which I bought recently.
Apparently my start with this great sampler is not so great because of the display issue

I do not know what to do now.

Here is short vid showing this issue:

My first guess (!) would be an old old coin cell somewhere on the PCB. Such display and memory errors are just too typical and familiar .

I had similar experiences, albeit not with an EMAX but with Yahama DX synths.

If that turns out to be the cause, replace the battery (install a battery holder if there is none yet*). Also, you may have to load your patches anew afterwards - I hope you have them stored somewhere.

Anyone knows where the battery is placed inside the emax?
I can not find it..

Is it possible that emax does not have any battery on the board?
I was searching internet + service manual and I could not find any information regarding battery

Hi,

take a look at you 2nd vid.
The small black box with the cable tie on the top right corner left to the small attached pcb could also be a battery but not a coin cell.
Just a guess because I can't read whats written on the box.

Yes, after having seen your second video I agree. The printed "5 KB", which in potentiometers usually translates to '5 kOhm linear', is now clearly legible.

ok, as mentioned before I couldn't really read the writing on it.
It looked liked a capped soldered battery to me.

One of the display pins is stuck either high or low. I could probably figure out exactly which one, if I thought about it enough. But suffice it to say that you should double-check the long display pins and the pins they slide into on the front panel PCB. Also verify that the soldering on the display itself is clean and tidy--none of the pins should be touching each other. Only 14 of the pins are used on an OLED like that, so don't be concerned if two appear to be "missing."

edit: More specifically, my guess is D6 signal is either stuck high or shorted to D5. Among many other issues, the 'space' character appears to be turning into a backtick.

I'm almost sure that this connection tape is damaged (when I move the tape the messages change...) so probably this is the problem
Any chance to get a spare parts to replace this tape? Is it difficult to replace it?

It should be easy to replace if you know how to desolder the parts safely. This is an IDC 40pin ribbon. You can find both the ribbon and sockets in places like Mouser.

Yes the ribbon tape was the issue!
I have replaced the tape and problem gone. Display works !

But I have another problem
There is no sound when I hit a key only white noise no matter which output only white noise.

Please someone advice how to diagnose a fault
