I've been looking like crazy for what synth or synths are used by the Japanese composer Goro Ohmi on his 80s anime soundtracks, I'm kinda new at all this so thought there might be experienced people here who knows.
Here's some examples of his typical sound I can't trace to any synth i know of:

Anyone who knows which synth or synths are used here?

Just about any subtractive synthesizer can make those sounds.
They remind me of Flash Gordon soundtrack. Queen used an Oberheim OB-X on that soundtrack.

Thanks for your quick reply! I've been busy, so didn't read it until now, sorry.Z wrote:Just about any subtractive synthesizer can make those sounds.

Yeah, that sounds similar.
I've been thinking of buying my first real synth, I'm practicing on a low budget keyboard right now, which one of these that I've been checking out on ebay would you say comes the closest to creating similar sounds?:
JP-08 (boutique version of the Jupiter 8)
JX-03 (boutique version of the JX-3P)
JU-06 (boutique version of the JUNO-106)
Casio CZ-1000
Roland alpha Juno 2

The JP-08 (which I also happen to have for sale - check Dallas CL) would be the closest thing to an OB-X and will be the most powerful, synthesis-wise, of the lot you listed. Followed by the JX-03.rikard838 wrote: Thanks for your quick reply! I've been busy, so didn't read it until now, sorry.

The Casio CZ series is an interesting breed. Kinda of a cross between traditional analog/subtractive and digital FM. Very tough to program for beginners.
The JU-06 would be the easiest to learn subtractive synthesis with, but is rather limited.
