Post by TlNNN » Sun Jul 23, 2017 10:51 pm

Hi All

My first thread and post

I bought a S550 awhile back. I could use some help on how to set this thing up. Specifically what mouse/monitor/etc to buy.

Appreciate the help thanks

Hi, you need an MSX compatible mouse. Sadly, these are rare and expensive, so instead you can get an adapter on eBay that will convert a USB mouse to the MSX / Roland standard.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-USB-MSX- ... 1887802591

(I'm not affiliated with the guy that sells these KM Tech Design http://stores.ebay.co.uk/KMTech-Design? ... 7675.l2563 )

As for the monitor, you can get RGB converters to connect them to modern monitors. See
or you can use the Composite which you can connect to a standard TV composite input, if you don't mind Monochrome.

Hey all, Just wanted to do an update.

Still working on this. Wow what a pain in the a*s to set this up. Is this how Roland did business back then?

First off, if you are ever thinking of getting this sampler, you will have to buy a Floppy Emulation drive. There is no way around this, unless you have some archaic computer system and DD floppies laying around.

I have the all the extra mod components needed for the mouse and display, but the RGB cable doesn't seem to work (the converter box works). I am going to replace it and hopefully everything is ready to go.
