Sh 101 external clock sync

Post by Artmis_music » Sat Dec 21, 2019 3:11 pm

Hey ,
Ive been trying to sync my sh 101 with my tr8s and got no success ..
I connected the ex clock from the sh to the trigger out in the tr 8s , and click on the trigger out buttons and no sound are coming out . I saw like a million videos and didn’t understand..

When i connect the sh to the korg volca bass its working but really slow like 1/8 arp and its not really in sync .

Help please 🙏

A trigger is not a clock, it is a single pulse.

Yes, if the TR8 is playing a pattern the trigger will start looking like a clock but only if the pattern is consistent, like endless 1/32 notes on the hi-hat.

Volca sync is two pulses per quarter note. So if the TR8 was sending a continuous stream of 1/8 note triggers, the Volca should play in sync. But it would be simpler with a Volca to just use MIDI clock from the TR8.

As far as the 101, the ext clock is only used for synching the sequencer/arp/S&H LFO. It will not start the sequencer if that is what you were expecting. Rather you start the sequencer first but it will not do anything until clock is detected. I think the 101 clock is 24 pulses per quarter note which would be continuous 1/64 note triplets. It also has to be high enough in level (at least 5V, maybe more). You could check to see if changing the TR8 tempo will change the speed of the S&H LFO.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
