Korg Triton Tr not starting up

Post by tun87659 » Tue Jan 04, 2022 4:28 pm

Hello everyone, I have a second-hand Korg Triton Tr. Yesterday I found some new sounds for it and wanted to test them so I just turned it on. However, unconciously I pulled out the SD card out while it was "starting the system" and it just stayed that way. Now, whenever I power it on, the "starting the system..." screen comes up just as usual but it does'nt actually start up, it just gets stuck that way. When I hold down Enter and Pause buttons to do system update, it responds to it, I insert the SD card and it starts loading it. After the loading is complete, it once again says "starting the system..." and it is the same all over again.
This is strange, I don't know if it has anything at all to do with me pulling the SD while it was starting or not.
If anyone has experienced any such thing like this before please help, I will be very thankful.
Have a nice day people!

From the user manual troubleshooting section, you can try this.
The power is turned on, but the LCD screen does
not display normally, or an error message is displayed.
There is no sound when you play the keyboard,
and the TR does not function normally.
• This type of problem may occur if a data writing
operation to internal memory was not completed
correctly, for example if the power of the TR was
turned off while a program or other data was being
written. If this occurs, use the following procedure
to initialize the TR’s internal memory.
1 Turn off the power.
2 Hold down the [MENU] key and the [9] key, and
turn on the power.
The TR will be initialized, and data will be written
into internal memory. While the data is being written,
the LCD screen will indicate “Now writing into
internal memory.”

Thanks for your reply. The thing is, the first thing I did was to try that. That one doesn't change anything unfortunately. I even looked for a solution in the service manual but couldn't find anything neither.

You could try asking over at the Triton LE/TR subforum at the Korg Forums site.

I can't even register to Korg Forums it is ridiculous, it doesn't accept my mail adress and stuff. So I just tried the other best option which was this forum. I hope I can solve it by myself, I may not be able to afford a repair.

Thank you so much.
I will probably contact the guy I bought it from. He told me that he would help if anything was wrong.
I hope it is not a big problem.
Have a great day.

Sorry, have to ask this...

Does "whenever I power it on" mean "whenever I power it on with the SD card inserted"?

Hey, I have good news!
I went to the place I bought it from yesterday, the guy just pulled out the RAMs, cleaned the pins with some liquid (probably alcohol) and then he put everything back together. Then we powered it on and it turned back to normal.
He didn't know what the exact problem was and he told me that he called the Korg service and they didn't either. That way or another, I am happy that it got solved without any trouble.
I now will mark this as solved. Thanks!

Good to hear. Sounds like a bit of corrosion on the chip pins, that would have shown up sometime in the future, anyway.
