Juno 106 | Infinite Sustain, Sweeping, Humming

Post by kevy » Tue Jul 26, 2022 4:48 pm

Hi!

I recently acquired a Juno 106 and after playing it for a few minutes, sweeping, humming, and infinite sustain seems to be showing up.

I am not the most familiar with how the Juno 106 should sound, but I do not think the sounds that are coming out of the synth are "proper". I've read online that the most likely culprit are the voice chips--specifically the black epoxy covering them--and that removing them through acetone usually fixes the issues.

Does anyone have any input on this? I've uploaded audio clips highlighting these sounds to a google drive folder. Hopefully this is better than me describing the sounds!

Yep classic Juno 106 voice chip failure, take it to a tech. Acetone stripping works in up to 80% of cases depending on the voice chip batch and the skills of your tech. You can just replace them all this is the surest method but priciest, you'll still need a tech.
