Sequential Multitrak - new fix for battery drain bug?

Post by syevad » Wed Aug 03, 2022 8:54 am

A few months ago I bought a Multitrak - yesterday after turning it on I've noticed the display was showing the number count from 1 to 6 - this appears to be a problem with the internal battery which is drained and not capable of powering the eprom so all presets are not read and the synth doesn't make any sound. I can get a basic reset sound but it's not useful.

I've opened the synth and tested the battery - it shows 0.5v - it should be 3v. So, it's clearly a battery problem...
Then I read about the battery drain bug affecting this synth. The solution apparently is to disconnect one of the resistors near the chip marked 4022 and connect the resistor directly to the thick trace of the same microchip. Simple as that (then is just a question of reloading the presets via Midi or Tape).

I think in my Multitrak has already been "treated" against this bug...but the mod is slightly different in that the resistor in question is connected via a red wire not to the microchip labelled 4022 but another nearby(is there a way I can load a picture?).

Anyone can confirm my deduction? I might be wrong but to me it appears a modification has already been done and not that keen on doing it another.

I've installed a new battery and the synth is back to normal - when turning it on it shows 00 (the first preset) I might keep using it for a few months and check of the battery is draining too fast...but if the bug isn't fixed I'll have to open the synth again.
