Since it is very difficult to get troubleshooting advice in Solid state logic support, other than an aggregate replacement, I would like to ask experts on working with SSL gear:
- Has anyone encountered a similar problem? When, with the same positions of the input gain controls on the input preamplifiers, do you noticeably hear the difference in the input signal before noise appears by 2-3 divisions of a 10-segment diode meter?
- anybody have the chematic diagram for Nucleus i-face/controller?
- or possible options for finding problems other than different values of gain pots?
- how can I adjust the channel imbalance according to the input signal level on VR1 or VR2?
the channels are working but I pay attention to the different amplification Gain-parameters of the singal between themselves (CH1-2 Gain 12EFRLBX VR1 vs VR2)
I provide the video
I send the OSC 1,0kHz and -18dbFS signal from Antelope ORION studio to SSL Nucleus preamp inputs. then I does to reduce the output value of ORION with similarly step by step increase the input gain to Nucleus preamps to maximum and equalent levels of signals. As you can see the video: the both channel potentiometers equally workig up to 3 oclock. But after crossing position on 3 o’clock the right channel’s #VR being make the non linear amplified signal with the distortion of sound against left channel.
I did the reassemble of unit (according by the maintenance order video tutorial. I Checked the preamp sockets and input board) - nothing to changed…
Moreover
- I checked the range of vari-resistances V1 of both preamp circuit plates. And found out at the difference of ranges of V1 (see the add.)
V1 of plate one (#626476x4 rev.00 C3801/127) : 0,0025 - 2,06 kOm
V1 of second plate (#626476x1 rev.1 C3801/166) : 0,0028 - 1,96 kOm
And one more :
- I tested the input gain by replaced channel plate between itself: the result:
- the gain increase going to followed by changed channel amp, see the pic. Mic.gain at channel 2 (plate #626476x1 rev.1 C3801/166)
IMHO - it is fault of V1 of last plate - #626476x1 rev.1 C3801/166)
