you could use something like a tr606 along with a midi - din sync converter
sync the drum machine to the computer, then use its trigger outs to step the arp

i don't actually use midi myself, but i do have a tr606 and an sh101 and i play around with the two together, and as the tr606 does have a sync input this could be an option for you, also the tr606 is a really cool cheap drum machine with a cool analog sound

otherwise i'm sure you could use something else but, as i usually just record my own performances and don't do much sequencing, i don't really know what

A kenton Pro-Solo will work perfectly but I would try just plugging an audio cable into the arp sync on the 101 and send it fast attack quarter notes (like a rimshot)

Levels need to be high enough to trigger the arpeg. Check the trigger voltage required. Audio signals may also cause problems with re-triggering due to fluctuations which are a natural part of audio - they are AC signals, and the arpeg normally needs a very short pulse of a few milliseconds, in DC. Probably 2 or 3V up to 12-14V.

Educated guesswork not based on knowledge of the SH, by the way, but I do have some similar gear.

SH101 - syncing to an external bpm

The roland TR-626 responds to MIDI and has that Trigger out you need. And it can do this shuffle-timing thing like the 909. and it´s relatively cheap (70-90$).
