MOTU Vs TASCAM

Post by gekichan » Fri Sep 22, 2006 2:52 pm

Hi there,

I need to expand the number of the analog input.
I was looking for an audio interface like a Motu 828 or a Tascam Fw-1804.
The tascam interface is cheaper than the motu one.
But the Motu reputation is unique.
Does anyone have some suggestions for me?

Thanks a lot,
Best.
GeK.

Yes I mean the 828 mkII.
I work on a mac plattaform so there won't be problems for the Pc drivers thoungh.

Do you have any information on the Tascam Fw1804?

I am a PC User and I use a MOTU 24i/o core system PCI Audio Interface. I love it. MOTU are great, and I recommend them most gleefully. If you are using a Mac, MOTU are probably the best choice since MOTU are Mac native. The 828mk2 also has more analog ins than the Tascam product (the Tascam has 8, the MOTU has ten).

I use the 828MKII with my Intel IMac set up and it rocks. I'm so happy with it. You don't need a mixer. It's a got a little piece of software that looks like a mixer and you can just mix on screen without touching the box! It also handles everything. I have all my synths in it...5 of them. I have a digital link to my mic pre (yes I have a seperate mic pre. The MOTU ones are fine but not like the kind you get from a high-end mic pre like Avalon or SPL) It also has word clock, adat, and SMPTE sync functions. All in all it is great. MOTU has a long history of making these things and I don't think the Tascam does all that for the money. Also look at the new Traveler by them. It has a lot of inputs. Hope this helped.
