Question about the Korg DSS-1

Post by abrokenframe » Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:11 am

Well, I found a DSS-1 for sale in this shop for $40, but we cannot get it to play any sounds. I know it is a sampler so I'm not sure if there are any presets or what could be wrong. Everything powers up and all the buttons work and go to their proper screens, so I think it is in working order. I was thinking maybe the battery was bad and deleted all of the loaded samples. If I can find out that it is something simple, I will be back there tomorrow to get it.

Thanks for any help!
Ryan

PS he is also going to sall me a clean working Mirage for 30!

You've got to have the OS/Sound disks loaded on power-up, otherwise you won't get anything out of her.

Man that is one h**l of a deal assuming it works. So is the Mirage. Get them both if you can.

The DSS-1 requires DSDD (or DD [Double Density] for short) floppies. You can find them online.

Or you could use a DSHD (high density) diskette as long as you use a piece of tape to cover the hole that is located opposite to the write-protection tab.

I went back to the store and the DSS seems to work perfectly. Before I went I read the manual and found out that you don't need a floppy for it to make sounds if you make your own sound waves on it. so I went back and did that and it worked. The only thing I have to do now is make sure the floppy drive is working because I have heard that they go bad on the DSS. I found a good site that sells the right floppy drive though. I am going back next week to get the mirage. The guy says they have been in the store for 6 years and noone wants them.

Thanks everyone.

Please tell me where you can go where nobody has any interest in a DSS-1 for six years. Around here one might last 5 seconds.
