Hi, I wanted to get a 303 and 606 and use them live together through the DINsync/pulse thing. Is there any way I could do this with an MC instead of a tb 303? Can an MC-303 connect to a 606 in this way? cheers
no it can't, acutally MC-303 has nothing todo with TB303, like the TR909 has nothing in common with MC909.
different era different hardware. It's only possible with a MIDI<->DIN convertet witch are available
from Kenton i think, perhaps MIDI Solutions or Phil Rees.

Thanks. I'm actually bidding on a very cheap MC-09 which apparently has some ok acid sounds. I've had a look at those converters. Do you happen to know if whether I should convert the mc-09/303's sound into din and send it to the 606, or transform the 606's sound into midi and send it to the MC-09/303? Cheers
Ok, first off, what "606" are we talking about here? TR-606, SP-606 etc?
dinsync is not available on any new roland machines and has not been since the TR-707 (late 80's). Furthermore, it only sends clock (hence din SYNC) so you can not send note info like with midi
What exactly are you trying to do with these devices?

None of that is possible. You cant transform sounds to DIN, it is just clock nothing else. You cannot transform sound into midi either since midi is just digital data and if your talking about a TR-606, that does not even have midiI should convert the mc-09/303's sound into din and send it to the 606, or transform the 606's sound into midi and send it to the MC-09/303?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a novice so please forgive my ignorance! It's a tr-606 drum machine. Ideally I wanted a tb-303 and tr-606 sync-d up because you can sort of play 'live' with these can't you (like ceephax acid krew, chris moss acid etc)? I was fairly sure you could play patterns on a 303 and 606 and that they would stay in time with each other through din.
Problem is I can't afford a tb-303, and wondered if there was any way I could substitute it for something a little cheaper like a groove-box, but still play live as if I had the tb-303 + tr 606 set-up. Is there no way that newer midi roland machines can 'talk' to old Roland midi machines in the way that, say, a 303 and 606 can? I think what I want is to sequence a pattern from a groovebox with a drum beat from a tr-606, but I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it! Cheers

What about an MC202? Pain-in-the-hole sequencer, but analogue and good sounding. Has built in DIN but no MIDI, obviously.
You could always buy a MIDI-Sync24 convertor box. They're pretty cheap. MIDI goes in one side, DIN sync comes out the other. Only works one way round though, not vice versa. I run my sync24 gear via midi that way.
