i was thinkin the exact same thing actually. but doesn't it require an extra controller to control the lfo's, etc.?

You do not need a seperate physical controller like the PG controllers, but you need a software editing program such as Unisyn if you want to edit and create your own sounds. It does already come loaded with 1000 matrix-6 patches, hence the name matrix-1000. :)

I agree. The matrix 1000 is nice. Also check Roland MKS 70.

i don't really care about creating my own patches so much. i just want to be able to tweak the lfo's, etc. in real time as i'm playing sounds off the matrix. is that possible?

Yes and no, there are 4 CC based modulation sources that are freely assignable to whatever you want that can be tweaked real time while playing. Everything else is sysex controlled and does not like being adjusted while playing

Votetra's go for close to $3000 so they're definately out of the price range.MKS series:7,30,70 fit the bill.Akai VX90.Kawai K3m has analogue filters and VCA's.Matrix1000 .Can't think of any more.

no realtime control over the LFO's on that either....
you can just about set it up for realtime control of cutoff frequency, but it's not a bad synth considering the price
