I was considering buying a Alesis MMT-8 sequencer, can anybody give me any pros or cons about it, is it a decent piece?

Reduce your avatar dimensions. It's way too big. Allowed: 100x100

Excellent pattern-based sequencer - in practice and feel a lot like a groovebox, but with no internal sounds.

VERY quick to be productive with. Pretty reliable - more solid live than a PC, with no mechanical parts to damage.

The main cons are that it lacks a step-time recording mode - it all has to be played realtime, and the rubber keypad often goes screwy in one of two ways - either the buttons require extra-hard pressure to register a keypress, or they "bounce" - i.e. register twice in one press. It's worth checking for or asking about this problem before buying one, as it can affect the price...

The keypad problems can be fixed fairly easily, though. :)

(I use one, so IMO the pros outweigh the cons! :D)

I used one for years, but got bored of working in loops and being limited to 8 simultaneous tracks.

It does what it does really well though - very easy to get to grips with. If you are making loop-based music and don't find 8-track operation a problem, it's a great little box. But yes, the keypads do go rotten. Mine became unusable and I plan to eventually re-house it with a new keyboard.

When I say 8-track, I mean it has 8 buttons that act as channels on a mixer might, for example: you can record MIDI on one, and then another, and bounce them down (IIRC) and obviously you've got the full range of MIDI channels to work with. But there's only 1 MIDI out. Great fun to use though, punching tracks in and out to build things.

I still use mine occasionally, the best plus is the instructions are on a flap on the top so you can't lose 'em.They're all getting old now,so if you do get one,get the internal battery renewed.
