Hi Everyone,
Here's something I've been meaning to do for a long time, create a space on the internet for EVERYONE to share their vintage synth service manuals FOR FREE! Imagine, the NAPSTER of Service Manuals... where people can upload their item, an admin or two would organize, catalog, label & verify it, then it's moved to a download area for all to use. Think of this as a way of centralizing & organizing all the available FREE service manuals ( plus a few additional ones ) in ONE spot, available to anyone for both uploading & downloading.
After uploading my scanned copy of the Yamaha CS-15 Service Manual to my mediafire account:
http://www.mediafire.com/?0njbzlmywzv
It's been downloaded over 130 times so far, and I can't tell how good that makes me feel to be able to share it with the world.
I originally posted this project idea to the AH mailing list, & I'm very excited that an two AH members have offered their services for hosting & web design, one in the US & one in Germany so far...any ADDITIONAL help would be greatly appreciated. Due to the WORLDWIDE aspect of AH, VSE & this project, I'm sure we could use a few more people. This project is now in the first phase of testing & organizing but I think we'll be able to offer something everyone can use in the near future. With a little effort, contribution & elbow grease, I believe we can accomplish something VERY impressive!
Meanwhile...
-- Project Name --
Every project needs a COOL name and / or acronym, any thoughts / suggestions eg:
Project: V.A.S.M.A. - Vintage Analog Service Manuals for All
or
Project: F.A.S.M.A. - Free Analog Service Manuals for All
or
S.M.P. - Service Manual Project
-- File Naming Conventions --
Looking for a standard naming convention that we can apply UNIVERSALLY to all the various manufact. & gear..
Something very simple, yet very descriptive, without being 1000 characters long... any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mo Rosati

i recon this is a great idea,
as for the names,
unless you are only covering pure analog synths and no digital or hybrid then i would say the first two names would be out
the third ones ok but what about SSMP - The Synth Service Manual Project??
seems a bit more descriptive

I was thinking that the MAIN focus of the project would definately be ANALOG GEAR ( Synths especially ) but I think it would a BIG mistake to not included ANY synth gear ( eg. hybrids, digital, samplers etc. ... ) , as well as other synth related gear eg. drum machines, effects, sequencers, interface / synchronizing gear...
again, anything SYNTH related but the main focus being ANALOG GEAR
Thanks,
Mo

I'd be happy to help. My only concern would be legality what with copyrights and all. I doubt any manufacturers would have an issue with sharing of general use manuals, but aren't service manuals typically sold individually to techs or something? *doesn't have a clue*
Anyways, let me know if you ever get underway.

Hi,
The Synth Manual Archive Project ( current working title ) has started to receive quite a few documents, including many that were not previously available.
Although this project is in it's intial gathering phase, the sharing aspect is available to anyone that would like to be involved in any way.
Please contact via email for more info.
Thanks,
Mo

Hi regarding Owners Manuals:
Service Manual, Schematics & other technical documents are the main focus for sure.
Roland & Yamaha have done an excellent job of making their Owner Manual Library available online, so that would be redundant
BUT
if it a " hard to find " owners manual, by all means YES... let's add it to the archive for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks,
Mo
