Using the laptop/VSTi's as a live synthesizer
I've toyed with this idea for a year now and finances necessitate that I sell my Micron so...I am going to give using my laptop as a straight-up live synth a go. Right now I am using a freeware VST host for the non-Arturia synths. What I am mostly asking for are tips from other VSE'ers who do this and what's the best way to have access to different VST's for different songs. Do you just load each VST for each song? Is there a tool that allows you to have a bunch of VST's loaded up and then just click on the next one? I know Reason has this function. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

We've used software synths and effects as part of our live show in the past and it's gone without a hitch. The system we use is super stable, it being:
Macbook
Motu 828mkII
Ableton Live as host
V-Synth as midi controller
Firewire drive for data.
Don't really have any other advice to offer apart from Mac Coreaudio is nice and stable for live work. I'm sure you're no going to go out and buy a mac if you don't already have one, so... I dunno, get lots of RAM?
